AANZFTA Certificates of Origin are required to access the reduced tariff/duty rates on goods under the ASEAN Australia New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA).
The AANZFTA Certificate of Origin can be used with goods exported into ASEAN countries to reduce or eliminate tariff and duty rates on those goods. To obtain a AANZFTA Certificate of Origin, you must first register as an exporter to ASEAN.
A separate, valid AANZFTA Certificate of Origin is required for each shipment of goods in order to claim preferential duty rates.
Under the AANZFTA, goods that are wholly obtained or produced in Australia are eligible for the preferential tariff rates.
Goods that are partly produced in Australia can also be declared as originating in Australia providing third country inputs have undergone a change in tariff classification as a result of production processes in Australia or include inputs from ASEAN nations. Australian Business International Trade Services can assist you with the classification process.
If you don’t register, or your goods don’t meet the rules of origin or lack an official AANZFTA Certificate of Origin, you can still export to ASEAN, however, your goods will be subject to import duties at higher general duty rates so your buyers will have to pay more.
