ACCI welcomes December start date for Korea-Australia FTA

Release Date

04 December 2014

Statement by Kate Carnell AO, CEO Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry

ACCI welcomes the announcement by Minister Robb that the Korea Australia Free Trade Agreement will begin operations on December 12.

This means that Australian firms will be able to take advantage of the benefits of the agreement in the last days of 2014 and then pick up a second scheduled tariff reduction on January 1, 2015 which will increase their competitiveness in one of our largest and most important markets.

Importers and consumers will similarly benefit from the agreement with lower cost imported products, and there are also opportunities for services industries and improved flexibility in labour mobility under the agreement.

ACCI and our member organisations stand ready to support companies engaged in international trade, both importers and exporters, to access this market and comply with the terms of the agreement.
